Emergency numbers in Dubai
In Dubai, call 999 for police, 998 for an ambulance and 997 for fire (Civil Defence). These are UAE-wide numbers published on the federal government portal, which also lists 996 for the coastguard, 995 for find and rescue and 991 for an electricity failure. For police matters that are not an emergency, Dubai Police runs a separate hotline, 901.

Every one of these is three digits and works across all seven emirates. On electricity, the portal lists 991 for “electricity failure” nationally and names DEWA as the 991 operator in Dubai; in the emirates other than Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah it lists 991 for electricity and 992 for water supply, operated by Etihad Water and Electricity.
Police: 999 or 901
999 is the emergency line. 901 is the Dubai Police non-emergency hotline, run from the force’s Command and Control Centre. The Government of Dubai Media Office describes it as providing over-the-phone services and as easing pressure on 999; in the first half of 2021 it received 339,272 calls. Neither source lists which matters belong on 901, so if you are unsure whether it is an emergency, the published number for an emergency is 999.
The federal portal separately lists Dubai Police’s Al Ameen service on 800 4888 from within the UAE (+971 800 4888 is also listed).

What the government portal does not publish
- The language an operator answers in. The federal list gives no language of service for any number on it.
- A dated revision. The page carries no “last updated” date, and it still lists three COVID-19 hotlines alongside the current numbers.
- What 901 is for. Its purpose is described only in general terms, in a 2021 press release rather than on a service page.
