Vegetarian dishes in Dubai: what restaurants actually publish

We checked the published menus of 27 Dubai restaurants for vegetarian and vegan markers. 8 of them mark dishes in a way we can reproduce — 39 dishes in total. The rest print nothing, print a symbol we cannot read, or print markers that contradict themselves. Every list of “vegetarian dishes” you find for the others was written by someone reading dish names and guessing.

Why we will not fill in the blanks

It would be easy to read down a menu and label the obvious ones. We do not, and the reason is in the data above. One restaurant’s own menu marks its noodles “Vegetarian” and also “Chicken”. Another prints a vegetarian symbol beside a dish its own description calls thinly sliced veal with tuna sauce. If the kitchens themselves get this wrong on their own menus, a stranger working from dish names will get it wrong more often.

The stakes are not culinary. Someone keeping a religious observance, or avoiding an allergen, can act on a label like this. A guess dressed as a fact is worse than an honest blank, so where a restaurant publishes nothing, this site says so and gives you its phone number.

What a marker does and does not tell you

Where a restaurant does mark a dish, we reproduce its label exactly and nothing more. A “vegetarian” mark is not a vegan mark: several of these menus have no vegan category at all, and a dish marked vegetarian may well contain dairy, egg or honey. No restaurant here publishes anything about cross-contamination, shared fryers or stock bases.

So the marker is a starting point for a conversation with the kitchen, not a substitute for it. If you are ordering around a strict requirement, call ahead — the number is on every venue page, along with the date we last checked it.

Where to look next

The four restaurants that do publish markers have them on their dish rows, alongside the price. Full menus with current AED prices are on each venue page, and the price comparison ranks every restaurant we cover by what a main course costs. Our sourcing rules are set out in the editorial policy.

Common questions

Which Dubai restaurants mark vegetarian dishes?

Of 27 whose published menus we checked, 8 mark dishes in a way we can reproduce — 39 dishes in total. The rest print nothing, print a symbol we cannot read, or print markers that contradict themselves.

Is it easy to eat vegetarian in Dubai?

Eating vegetarian is easy. Knowing in advance what is vegetarian is not, because most menus carry no marker at all.

Why do you only list 39 vegetarian dishes?

Because those are the ones the restaurant itself marks. Every longer list you will find for these restaurants was written by someone reading dish names and guessing, which is not something we will publish about food.

Are there vegan options in Dubai restaurants?

Some of the menus that mark vegetarian also mark vegan; where they do, the distinction is kept in the table. Where a menu marks only “V” without defining it, we do not treat it as vegan.

Can I trust a restaurant's vegetarian marker?

Treat it as the restaurant's claim, which is what it is. Where a menu's own markers contradict each other we say so rather than pick the reading that produces a longer list.
