nol pass break-even calculator

RTA publishes pass prices and single fares on the same page and never puts them against each other. Dividing one by the other gives the only number that matters: how many journeys before the pass is the cheaper choice.

This total is our arithmetic, not a published figure. Every input above is quoted from the source named beside it; the addition is ours, and it is shown line by line so you can check it. The division is ours; both figures in it are RTA’s, from the same published page. A pass is worth buying above the number of journeys shown and not below it — but RTA publishes no refund or transfer rule for an unused pass, so a pass bought and not used is simply spent.

The 365-day passes are the ones to look at twice

A Silver all-zones annual pass is AED 2,670 and each single journey it replaces is AED 7.50 — so it pays for itself at 356 journeys, which is just under one a day for the year. If you commute five days a week you pass that inside eight months. If you use the metro at weekends only, you will not reach it.

The seven-day passes break even far faster in journeys but give you far less time to make them: a Silver two-zone weekly is 16 journeys in seven days, which is more than two a day, every day. All the published pass prices.

Common questions

Is a nol pass worth it in Dubai?

It depends entirely on how many journeys you will actually make. A Silver two-zone 30-day pass costs AED 230 and replaces AED 5 single journeys, so it breaks even at 46 journeys — about 1.5 a day for the month. Below that, paying per journey is cheaper. That division is our arithmetic; both figures in it are RTA's.

What is the difference between a Silver and a Gold nol pass?

Gold gives access to the Gold class carriage and costs exactly double the Silver price at every zone band and every pass length, on RTA's own published table. The break-even number of journeys is therefore identical — only the money changes.

Can I get a refund on an unused nol pass?

RTA publishes no refund or transfer rule for an unused pass. That is not the same as saying no refund exists; it means we could find no published statement either way, so we do not tell you one.
