This total is our arithmetic, not a published figure. Every input above is quoted from the source named beside it; the addition is ours, and it is shown line by line so you can check it. Neither RTA nor Dubai Airports publishes the distance from DXB to anywhere, so the kilometres above are yours, not theirs, and no minimum fare is published by either. What Dubai Taxi does publish as extras: 50 fils per minute waiting, Salik when you cross a gate, and AED 20 more for entering Sharjah — none of which is in the totals above.

The metro is the figure to measure against

There is no airport premium on the metro. A journey from Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 costs the ordinary nol zone fare, AED 3 to AED 7.50 on a Silver card depending on how many zones you cross — against a taxi total that passes AED 70 before you reach 20 kilometres. Work out the exact nol fare.

Three things the metro will not do for you: it does not serve Terminal 2 at all, it starts at 08:00 on Sunday rather than 05:00, and RTA limits you to two suitcases per passenger at published dimensions. The published hours, the luggage rule and what neither authority publishes.

Common questions

How much is a taxi from Dubai airport?

RTA publishes a starting fare of AED 20 for a standard taxi and AED 25 for a van, and Dubai Taxi Company publishes AED 2.62 per kilometre on top. Dubai Airports' own site states the starting fare is AED 25 and publishes no per-kilometre rate. Two official answers, both published here.

Is the metro cheaper than a taxi from DXB?

On the published figures, substantially. The metro charges the ordinary nol zone fare — AED 3 to AED 7.50 on a Silver card — with no airport premium, against a taxi that starts at AED 20 before any distance. The metro serves Terminals 1 and 3 only.

What is added to a Dubai airport taxi fare?

Dubai Taxi Company publishes 50 fils per minute waiting time, Salik charges when the taxi crosses a toll gate, and AED 20 extra for entering Sharjah. None of these is included in the totals on this page, and no minimum fare is published by either authority.

How far is it from DXB to Downtown Dubai?

Neither RTA nor Dubai Airports publishes a distance or a journey time between the airport and any destination, and RTA publishes no static metro journey times either — only a route planner. Any figure you see quoted is somebody's estimate, which is why the distance above is an input rather than an answer.
