Dubai Salik toll calculator

Salik is charged per gate crossed, not per journey, and the rate changes with the hour and the day. RTA publishes all of it, which makes this the rare Dubai figure that can be calculated exactly.

This total is our arithmetic, not a published figure. Every input above is quoted from the source named beside it; the addition is ours, and it is shown line by line so you can check it. Salik is charged per gate, not per journey: one trip can cross two gates and be charged twice. RTA publishes the tariff and the free window; it does not publish a daily cap, so this total has no ceiling applied. If your route mixes peak and off-peak crossings, run the calculator twice and add the answers — that is what we would do.

The mistake that costs the most

People budget Salik per journey. It is charged per gate, and a single crossing of the city can pass several. A return trip in the peak windows is four crossings if your route has two gates each way, not two — AED 24 in a day rather than AED 12.

The free window is the other thing worth knowing: no charge applies between 01:00 and 06:00 on any day, and Sunday is charged at the off-peak rate all day. Those are RTA’s own statements, not an inference. The full tariff, with the gates and the sources.

The other calculators

All of them work the same way: published inputs, named sources, the arithmetic shown, and the missing pieces stated.

Common questions

How much is Salik per crossing in Dubai?

RTA publishes AED 6 for crossings between 06:00 and 10:00 and between 16:00 and 20:00 from Monday to Saturday, and AED 4 at all other hours. Sunday is AED 4 all day. There is no charge at all between 01:00 and 06:00 on any day.

Is Salik charged per trip or per gate?

Per gate. One journey that passes two Salik gates is charged twice. That is the single most common budgeting error, and it is why this calculator asks for crossings rather than trips.

Is there a daily maximum for Salik?

RTA publishes no daily cap, so we apply none. If a cap exists it is not in any published source we could find, and we will not invent one.

Is Salik free on public holidays in Dubai?

RTA publishes a free window between 01:00 and 06:00 every day and the off-peak rate all day on Sunday. It publishes nothing about public holidays. We record that as unpublished rather than assuming the Sunday rule extends to them.

How many Salik gates are there in Dubai?

RTA publishes the gate locations, and the number matters less than the route: what you pay depends on which gates your particular journey crosses, not on how many exist. That is why this calculator asks for crossings rather than for a route.

What happens if I have no Salik balance?

RTA publishes a violation charge for crossing without sufficient balance, but the published statements about how long you have to top up before it applies are not consistent enough for us to quote a deadline. Check your balance before you drive rather than relying on any website's summary, including this one.

Do I pay Salik in a taxi?

Yes — RTA's own published fare formula lists a 'Salik fee (if applicable)' as a separate term added to the meter. What it adds depends on the route the driver takes, so it cannot be known before the trip.
